NIGHT RATING

A Night Rating allows you to fly single-engine, non-high-performance wheeled aircraft with passengers at night. This rating is also built into the CPL course.

Prerequisites

Private Pilot Licence and Category 1 or 3 prior to solo flight.

Flight Training Requirements

5 hrs of advanced dual instruction
5 hrs solo flight time

Exam Requirements

No written examination is required. No flight test is required.

Mountain Checkout

VFR-OTT Rating

Flying Visual Flight Rules Over-the-top (VFR-OTT) means flying with visual reference to a layer of cloud instead of the earth’s surface without holding an Instrument Flight Rating (IFR). The VFR-OTT rating is an endorsement that can be added on to your Private Pilot Licence, it is also built into the CPL course.

Prerequisites

Private Pilot Licence and Category 1 or 3 Medical Certificate. If you hold a Commercial Pilot Licence, you will already be rated for VFR Over-The-Top.

Flight Training Requirements

10 hours dual flight time (15 hours if no IFR in PPL)

Ocean Checkout

Learn all it takes to safely fly over the coastal mountains and explore the beautiful west coast.

Fly to the north end of Vancouver Island, find waterfalls, go camp on an island in the gulf islands or even venture off to Tofino for some surfing. This rating is designed to let students “create their own adventure” while gaining advanced seaplane knowledge.

Training will be conducted in a Cessna 180 or Cessna 172 Seaplane. Flight time is based on the average student and totals approximately 20 hours.
