50 Hour Bush Pilot Program

Air-Hart Aviation's flight training centre, focused on floatplane training has developed a unique syllabus to help you towards your goal of being a bush pilot. Our 50 Hour Bush Pilot course is our most popular program, and the best way to prepare for starting out as a bush pilot. Our 50 hour bush course, includes 25 dual hours and 25 hours solo. And we are one of the only floatplane training operators that provide true solo hours. We believe this is an important component in ensuring you are prepared for an exciting career as a bush pilot. As a Canadian company, we realize the need for competent 'bush pilots' as well as future airlines pilots. The airline industry is always keen to hire competent young pilots. Their hiring practices are cyclical and it is unlikely that all commercial pilots will have the opportunity to move into the right-hand seat of an airline partner. Charter companies are often an option, and because of their varied assignments, they appreciate a more well-rounded background. Some pilots wish to experience the thrill of bush flying and may wish to stay within this branch of aviation.

Unlike landplane schools offering basic float training, float flying is 100 % our business. Landplane schools offering floatplane training typically lack the knowledge, training  and focus in operating a floatplane operation. Many of those who have tried have been unsuccessful and have poor floatplane safety records. Air-Hart has an excellent safety record and are 100 % focused on ensuring our pilots get the real-world training they need to succeed.

In 2008, we saw a lot of movement in the Aviation industry. Many pilots looking to start their careers as a bush pilot were finding jobs with basic floatplane ratings as operators scrambled to fill positions. Even though many operators require at least 50 hours of floatplane experience for insurance purposes, they were willing to train.

Although the economy is getting better from last year, we are still seeing less jobs posted The 50 hour floatplane/seaplane course will give you an advantage over most low-time commercial pilots who have only the 7 Hour Hour floatplane/seaplane rating.

Many floatplanes schools do not offer true solo hours as part of their 50 hour program. The reason is due to insurance premiums that sky rocket as a result. But learning to fly solo with confidence is an important element of the learning process. The confidence gained by flying many solo hours will prepare you for the real word far more than having the safety net of an instructor along for the ride.  PIC is not the same as solo. Read comment from an Aviation Employer.

C-180 Pilot Competency Check Training (PCC)

Air-Hart's C-180 Pilot Compentency Check (PCC) is an optional training course add-on to our 50 Hour Bush course. And it may just give you the extra advantage you need to get your first bush Job. When you start with an operator and before you can start flying, the operator is required to provide company indoctrination training and the PCC. This is typically at least three hours of flying an a number of hours of indoctrination training. This three hours flight training can count towards your 50 hour bush course.

Giving You an Advantage

Company indoctrination training iand the PCC is mandatory for every operator. Since PCC is transferrable from one company to another, you will be saving the operator time and money. Flagging this in your resume is going to get you noticed. Included in the training:

Icing Training

Flight Following

Emergency  Procedures

Aircraft Servicing & Water/Ground Handling

Costs:      $330.00  ( Approximately 6 Hours of Training)

Note: this does not include self study time and exam time)

Why the 180?

Most operators you will fly with will not have anything smaller than a C-180. Even if you have taken most of your training on the C-172 XP, you should try to get a minimum of 5 hours on the 180 as part of the 50 Hour Bush Course.

Floatplane Advantage

The operator that hired me chose me over other applicants that had higher total times. The difference was that I had more float time and the 50 hour float course and CPL training I received at Air-Hart really gave me an edge to get my first flying job. My experience there was something I will always remember and appreciate.
